The International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), has elected this month the 2018 new Academicians in a highly selective process. Newly elected corresponding members and members are from 25 countries. Many Academicians were inducted on 30 September 2018 on the occasion of the Academy Day in Bremen, Germany.

IAA Academy Day took place on July 14, 2018 in Pasadena, California, USA at the occasion of the COSPAR Congress. Scientific program of the Academy Day is available. Speakers were Ralph L. McNutt. Jr., Rainer Sandau, Karl-Heinz Glassmeier, Susan McKenna-Lawlor, Guenther Reitz, Robert T. Pappalardo, Claire Vallat, Claudio Maccone, Bernard Foing and Arthur M. Dula. The Pasadena Academy Day was followed by an IAA Awards Dinner & Induction Ceremony for newly elected members.

IAA Spring meetings were held on March 26-27, 2018 in Paris, France at IAA Office building. Academicians were invited to attend Study Group meetings and Commission meetings. An IAA Awards Dinner with an Induction Ceremony for newly elected members was scheduled on March 26, 2018.

An IAA Regional Meeting was held on December 5, 2017 in Roma, Italy. Secretary General Dr. Jean-Michel Contant gave the opening speech followed by an introduction by Regional Secretary Prof. Antonio Viviani and a lecture “This star as a tail, which makes it very beautiful... The Rosetta mission” by Academician Prof. Amalia Ercoli Finzi. Meeting participants gathered in a gala dinner with an induction of newly elected members: Prof. Mohamed Argoun, full Member for Section 1 on Basic Sciences, Prof. Paolo Gaudenzi, corresponding member for Section 2 on Engineering Sciences, Prof. Giampiero Naletto, corresponding member for Section 1 on Basic Sciences, and Dr. Chantal Cappelletti, full Member for Section 2 on Engineering Sciences.

The 4th IAA Conference on University Satellite Missions and CubeSat Workshop took place on 04-07 December 2017 in Roma, Italy. The event, organized by GAUSS Srl under the aegis of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), gathered many participants from all around the world belonging to the Space academic, scientific and industry domains. During this forum, high level speakers have presented scientific and technical Papers on the Microsatellites related field, sharing their knowledge on the several aspects of the small satellite missions and the CubeSats community. IAA Secretary General Dr. Jean-Michel Contant – member of the Program Committee - gave the Opening Lecture and co-chaired the Conference with Professor Filippo Graziani (GAUSS President and IAA member) and other experts. The program was organized into Invited Lectures and Technical Sessions structured according to the following Topics: Launch Opportunities, Payload, Space Mission Analysis and Design, Attitude Control, Space Debris, PoquetCubes, CubeSats Subsystems and New Perspectives. An IAA Regional Meeting and Guided Tours were also organized during the Conference days.
